Telettra Strike: Feminist Force

A significant mobilization in which women from Gipuzkoa played a prominent role was the strike of the Telettra workers in San Sebastián in 1976.

This strike is considered a milestone in the fight for women’s labor rights in the region. Telettra was an electronic components company with a female workforce. The workers were protesting wage discrimination and poor working conditions. The strike lasted 95 days, from January to April 1976, and included demonstrations, sit-ins, and other forms of protest. The strike received support from different sectors of the labor force and the local community, and wage increases and the recognition of some labor rights were achieved. This strike became a symbol of the struggle of working women in Gipuzkoa and throughout the Basque Country.
