Graphic industry
The graphic industry in Tolosa has a rich history that dates to the 19th century. Two outstanding companies in this sector were Gráficas López Mendizabal and Gráficas Laborde y Labayen.
Gráficas López Mendizabal was founded by the López Mendizabal family, which is made up of well-known publishers, printers, and intellectuals. Isaac López-Mendizabal, born in 1879, was a key figure in the company and the dissemination of Basque culture. The family kept an important documentary collection until 1977, which was recently donated to the Historical Archive of Euskadi. Gráficas Laborde y Labayen was born from the union of the Widow of Juan José Laborde e Hijos and the Labayen family. The company was a pioneer in the new industrial advertising posters in the XX century but ceased its activity in 1974.
